♠ the kanji here, 宿命 "shukumei", is sung as さだめ "sadame" -- both words can mean fate or destiny, but "shukumei" refers to a fate tied in with rebirth and past lives (as opposed to the more generic 運命 "unmei", which is just general everyday fate); while "sadame" (kanji 定め) refers to fate in a much heavier, almost religious sense -- it can be translated in some contexts as "law". So basically, this wordplay refers to an inescapable fate; but there's not really one whole word that encapsulates that in English, as far as I'm aware -- but I did avoid the word "destiny" and used the somewhat harsher "fate". ⮝
